Hotels.comTM, the global hotel bookings expert, revealed the top Indians destinations preferred by overseas travellers and a list of top overseas destinations preferred by Indian travellers in its latest Hotel Price Index™ (HPI™). The HPI is regarded as the definitive report on hotel prices paid across the world. According to a recent report, Indian metros continued to dominate the top 10 favourite destinations list amongst international travellersin the first half of 2016.
The capital city of India, New Delhi bagged the number one spot as the most preferred Indian destination for overseas travellers, followed by the metropolitan city of Chennai and the city of dreams, Mumbai respectively. Other popular destinations for travellers included India’s cultural hub – Kolkata, Bengaluru – the garden city, Hyderabad – the city of pearls and India’s IT hub – Pune occupying the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th positions respectively. Goa, the famous beach and leisure destination of India continued to be the 4th most preferred destination among foreign travellers while India’s city of love – Agra secured the 10th spot. Kochi known as God’s own country moved out of the top 10 preferred destinations, making way for the ‘Manchester of the east’ – Ahmedabad as the new emerging destination preferred by international tourists occupying the 9th spot.

Further, the HPI revealed South East Asian destinations dominated the top 10 favourite destinations list amongst Indian travellers while travelling abroad. According to the report, the best value rates available in Bangkok made it the most preferred international destination amongst Indians. Pattaya bagged the fourth spot followed by Phuket while Jakarta occupied the 8th spot.
‘Big Apple’ New York and Sin City Las Vegas represented America on the list bagging the 2nd and 3rd spotsrespectively. Spain’s Barcelona ranked 6th while Madrid maintained its position as compared to last year’s ranking of being No.9 on the list.
While at the 7th rank, Guangzhou, China restored its spot in the top 10, Thailand’sKoh Samui moved to the 20th rank making way for Cape Town, South Africa as the most preferredoverseas destinations by Indian travellers in 2016.
