Located after the Mulshi lake, the ghats look like an unbeatable wall at one end by the roadside. If you love natural waterfall, then this place is a must visit. The drive from Pune is quite enjoyable and just awesome during the rainy season. You can take a halt at any of the several waterfalls falling from the Western Ghat mountain ranges along the road and you’ll have an amazing time.

Distance – 44.4 km via Paud Road and Mulshi Road (Around 1hr 45 min)

Best time to visit – July, August, September

Places to stay – There are few resorts along the road and some home-stays too for the budget travellers. Few of them are close to the waterfalls and viewpoints so it will be easier to experience nature at its best.

Before the monsoon ends, it’s time you make a trip to the picture postcard hill station of Panchgani. It is a popular hill station near Mahabaleshwar, famous for its various sunset/sunrise points and scenic valley view. Five hills form the Sahyadri mountain ranges offer Panchgani its name. The picturesque backdrop of hills on one side and coastal plains on the other makes for an amazing view. The majestic mountains create a beautiful background on one side and the coastal plains form the other. 

Attraction – Panchgani sightseeing is about visiting places like Table Land, Tapola Water Sports Centre, Sydney Point, Rajapuri caves, Kamalgad Fort and much more.

 Distance – 101.3 km via NH 48 (Around 2 hrs 22 min)

Best time to visit – Panchgani is a year round destination, however, the months from August to May are considered to be the best months to pay a visit to this hilly retreat.

Kamshet is a major attraction for people interested in paragliding and other adventurous activities. The picturesque location is also a great getaway from Pune. The destination is also dotted with various architectural splendors and historic sites that leave the visitors spellbound. Thick forest, surrounding the region also adds to the magical charm of the place.

Distance- 64 km via NH 48 (1hrs 38 min)

Best time to visit –  Monsoons are a grace of God on this picturesque town of Kamshet. It receives rainfall which makes the town lush green. The waterfalls here are well thronged during the monsoons and are a vision to witness

Bhimashankar, a traditional pilgrimage town now attracting thousands of tourists owing to its pleasant climate and stunning vistas. Bhimashankar is located in the village Bhorgiri in the ghat region of the Sahyadri. It is surrounded by lush foliage and thick green rainforests, offering a refreshing experience to visitors.

Bhimashankar also houses one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, which is among the most important temples in India. Other tourist attractions in Bhimashankar include Hanuman Lake and Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary.

Distance- 110 km via NH60 & MH SH 54 (3hrs 12 min)

Best time to visit-  The monsoon is the best time for bird watchers, as the air is full of the mating calls of the Quaker babble, the Malabar grey hornbill, Malabar whistling thrush and the black eagle.

A festival to watch out for in August-September is Ganesh Chaturthi. There is dance, music and merriment everywhere, and the celebration is a riot of colours

Matheran is a hill station, situated on the Western Ghat mountain range in Maharashtra. Kolad is a thriving tiny village in Raigad district in Maharashtra. It boasts of natural beauty which blooms during the monsoons. The majestic valleys and picturesque backdrops makes Kolad a treat for nature lovers as well as shutter bugs. 

Distance- 145 km via SH92 and Bengaluru- Mumbai highway/Pune highway (3hrs 11min)

Best time to visit- Monsoons are the most beautiful in the Kolad. The lush greenery surrounding Kolad seems to come alive during these brief months.

Places to stay- There are plenty of places to stay nearby Kolad which is a good holiday destination with something to offer to everyone.
